It is an honor to be part of the division’s innovative and generous medical education community, which is poised to be an international leader in the field.

Bio

I’ve authored over 100 scientific, clinical, and medical education papers on psychiatric disorders and humanistic medical practice, as well as articles (and one book) on the use of social media in medicine and two books on psychiatry. Along the way, I’ve mentored all levels of learners and faculty – across multiple disciplines – locally, nationally. After participating in the inaugural cohort of the Harvard Macy Institute Art Museum-based Health Professions Educators Fellowship in 2018, I’ve pivoted my research to focus on the role of the arts and humanities in medical education in professional identity formation.
My personal interests include reading classic literature, watching films and football, knitting, cooking, and hiking.

I received my BA in visual arts from UMBC and my MD from the University of Maryland. After medical school, I trained in psychiatry at Hopkins, and am board-certified in both general psychiatry and addiction medicine. I am also certified as a facilitator in Visual Thinking Strategies, the most widely used and studied arts-based teaching method.
